The Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regiment

Home

Raised in 1688 as Douglass's Regiment, later the 16Foot and became The Bedfordshire Regiment in 1809.

In honour of the many men from Hertfordshire who served in World War One, "Hertfordshire" was added to the title of the regiment in 1918.

Most of the retired Colours are in St. Albans Cathedral with some others in St. Pauls Church Bedford and St. Marys Luton.

At St Peters Church Cornhill there is a memorial window commemorating all ranks who served and fell in the service of the 16th from 1688 to the present day.
