The South Lancashire Regiment

40th Foot raised in 1717 as Philips Regiment, the 82nd Foot raised in 1793 and linked as 1st & 2nd Battalions The South Lancashire Regiment in 1881.

Up until 1881 neither units had a Lancashire connection, surprisingly the connection was Somerset.

1958.07.01 amalgamated with 1st Bn, The East Lancashire Regiment, to form 1st Bn, The Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers)

In 1970 the East & South Lancashires were almalgamated to form The Queens Lancashires.

The Colours are in St Elphin Church Warrington.
