Yes like your page. I served with the regiment from Jan 45 until we were taken into the Duke of Cornwalls L.I. I do not have a scanner and cannot at this stage supply a picture, but you may have one taken in a group at Bisley when I was in a team in the kings shoot representing brigade ( I think) My memories of those far off days are swiftly fading. It would seem that the collective memories of the regiments are about to suffer the same fate, from what I read of the cuts taking place. Richard James Ringshaw

I would like to trace my Great grand father Albert James Lewis who in 1873 was in the 52 Regiment and also registered a son whose name is also Albert James Lewis. Albert James Lewis senior was married to Mary Albanese from Malta. My grandfather was registered by his father in Gibraltar. I have found everything about my grand father but I am unable to trace my great- grand father. The only clue is that he was a private in the 52 regiment in 1873. can you help please. Thank you. Through your information and also that supplied by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission I have been able to trace the details of where my uncle (and namesake) John Douglas Golding - Private - 203489 was killed on 10th September, 1917. I well remember that 60 years ago whenever I visited my grandmother's home that his details were carefully framed and hung on the wall of the living room. It made me feel proud that through me his name lived for another generation. One small query I have is that alongside the memorial certificate was hung a Ghurkha Kukri ( I think it was a sharp crescent shaped sword) I believe that he 'obtained' it as a souvenir and would be grateful to learn if his regiment was in any way connected with a Ghurkha regiment at that time. mailto:john@dgolding.freeserv.co.uk and would be happy to hear from any interested person. By the way I obtained the details of his death, including a roll of honour certificate from the Commonwealth Graves Commission site at http://yard.ccta.gov.uk/cwgc/register.nsf  John D.Golding

You do have a great page and I feel it a privilege to be able to use it. Thank you. I served with both the OBLI and DCLI from Jan 45 to Jan 53. Thank you for spending so much of your time preparing and upgrading this first class site. I send this message to you from New Zealand where I have lived since 1963, after immigrating here from Flackwell Heath nr High Wycombe. Its very difficult to get assistance from 12,000 miles away but having found your site I hope that you will be able to help me confirm a query about my grandfather HUBERT WILLIAM WATKINS no.17805 of The Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry who was killed on 1st July 1916. Based on information from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission it would appear that he became no.16486 private Hubert William Watkins of The 1st Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. This seemed to be a case of being demobbed from one tour of duty and then signing up again. Have you any comments on this. I am trying to confirm that he was in fact one and the same person. My grandmother was Maude Emily Watkins Nee Adams. They had three children, Phyllis, William Frederick and Percy Hubert Watkins. The births were registered in Amersham and High Wycombe and they lived at Loudwater. I am the last Male of the English part of the family and I want to get the Family Tree sorted out for my family and future generations. thank you in advance for any assistance that you may be able to offer. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. With kind regards Brian Watkins 116 Mersey Street Christchurch 8001 NEW ZEALAND

Thank you, at last I have found info on my local regiment, (born & raised in Aylesbury, Bucks.), that I have not been able to access in my current location, Elmhurst, IL., just outside Chicago, IL. in the USA. A timeline, that I have just printed, is one of the most important items of info I required. Unfortunately being in northern Illinois, I cannot easily link up with the Oxf.& Bucks. re-enactment group ca. 1000 miles south of here, down in Austin, TX. Their main raison-de-etera is the 2nd.Oxf.& Bucks. most successful action, the taking of the bridges on the left flank of the D-Day bridgehead in the small hours of 6June1944. Thanks again, I have to leave as aol is going to disconnect me for inactivity! Doug Caton mailto:www.Caton d46@aol.com

My wife's grandfather won the military medal while serving in the O&BLI during the first world war. His surviving sons are keen to find out what he did to deserve such an honour. His name was WILLIAM EDWARD EALES although his surname was misspelt as HALES when he signed up, so HALES was on his medal. Any ideas on how I might start to find things out would be greatly welcomed!

My great uncle, Private George Arthur Edward Cripps, 202619, 1st/4th Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, was killed on 16 August 1917 in the capture of Langemarck, West Flanders and he was buried where he fell, according to a letter from a Captain of the 6th O.B.L.I. to his brother of the deceased. The burial ground is presumably the Cement House Cemetery. I would be very interested if any old photographs or other information exist of the Battalion. A very interesting web site. Greetings from across the sea and from the members of the recreated 43rd Regiment of Foot! Since 1966 we have been keeping alive the memory of the British soldier in the American Revolution by portraying the "hat men" of the 43rd at commemorations and battle re-enactments throughout the eastern US and Canada. Our organization is dedicated to an accurate depiction of the 18th Century fighting man and has more than 100 volunteer members portraying officers, enlisted men, fifers, drummers, camp followers and more. We also field a reproduction artillery piece and crew depicting men of the 4th Bn, Royal Artillery. Best wishes to our friends in the UK!

My stepfather Thomas William Brittain. served with the O&BLI from 26th June1934 until transferring to the Royal Armoured Corp in 1947. Thomas was captured on the retreat to Dunkirk, and spent nearly five years as a P.O.W. in Poland ,we know that at some time he was at M-Stammlager XXB.Gepruft.21. I have in my possession two photographs taken at this camp showing Thomas with two other P.O.Ws. still in their Army uniform, but without insignia. These photographs were sent as postcards to inform relatives of their imprisonment. Pte.JAMES WILLIAM CLEMENTS from Berkhamstead My wife's father served in the Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry from 5th June 1916 until 1st August 1919. He was posted to France on 25th March 1917 until 2nd September 1917 and again to France on 11th January 1918 to 3rd April 1918. He was reported Killed in Action on 23rd March 1918. However a card was received from him from Limburg and he was in fact a Prisoner of War and returned to Dover on 7th December 1918. I would be interested to know which Battles he fought and in which camp he was imprisoned.
